Internship

The Friedrich-Ebert-Stiftung in Jerusalem offers interested students the opportunity to complete an internship over the period of three to six months.

Students interested in internships should have completed their first stage of university studies in social science or cultural issues and have a good command of English. Arabic skills are also advantageous. International students with knowledge of German are encouraged to apply as well. Interested applicants should submit a resume and well developed statements of interest. Included in the statement should be previous experience in Middle Eastern regional issues as part of university studies as well as personal motivation for seeking to conduct an internship in the Jerusalem office of the Friedrich-Ebert-Stiftung. Please do not forget to state the period of time in which you shall be available. Application material incl. diplomas and other certificates should only be submitted via E-mail.

The modernly equipped office offers interns their own computer and working space. A small library offers a glance into economic, social, and political developments in the Middle East. The Foundation works closely with Palestinian partners and research institutes which offers ideal conditions for examination and research.

The focus of interns work is not limited to one specific issue and can be discussed ahead of time. Reports on workshops, newspaper article collection, internet research and organization of the library, etc. count among the intern‘s basic tasks in the daily work at the Foundation.

Interns are responsible for securing their own accommodation, but Friedrich-Ebert-Stiftung can help guide them. Please be aware that the cost of renting accommodation in Jerusalem is high (about 350 USD per Month).

Unfortunately the Foundation cannot offer compensation for the costs associated with an internship. Possible financial support from Germany is available in the form of Auslands-BaföG or an internship stipend from the DAAD.

For a stay longer than three months it is necessary to secure an extension of a visa from the Israeli ministry of the interior before the expiration of the first visa issued.
